What is Feng Shui? | Anjalika Sanstha

What is Feng Shui?

It is Vastu Shastra of China ‘VASTU’ means a place where God and human beings dwell or reside. The residence of the two together, gives a feeling of immense peace. Feng Shui is not at all connected with any religion or cast. Feng Shui has its origin in china long back, but this does not mean that only boddh religion people can avail the benefits of Feng Shui. The benefits of Feng Shui are open to all persons of any religion or faith. For this particular reason, Feng Shui has become very much popular in many countries. Feng Shui provides peace and prosperity to the people. As per words, Feng Shui means wind and water. The right proportion or balance of wind and water is Feng Shui. Wind when flows in a moderate manner, it is peaceful and beneficial. Water, which is clean and pure satisfies our needs and it is beneficial. The water is regarded as wealth in Feng Shui. As per Indian Vastu Shastra, by changing the structure from the wrong to the right direction, we can convert the negative energy, into a positive energy and for the same purpose many a times, we are to dismantle a structure and rebuilt it, as per Indian Vastu. In view of the lack of residential areas now a days, we find that majority of the built houses, factories,  offices, apartments are having Vastu defects. A lot of money and time is required for the modification, reconstruction of such defective structures which is not possible for every person. But as per Chinese Vastu, Feng Shui, no modification or reconstruction is needed for defective structures, in such cases Feng Shui is to be adopted, which is easy, time saving and money saving. To convert negative energy into positive energy, certain and specific cure/remedies are recommend which are very cheaper as compared to dismantling and reconstructing the structures.

The composition of Feng Shui is based in view of the positive circle of Five Elements i.e., Water, Earth, Wood, Fire and Metal.
As per Feng Shui we can divide the LUCK into three time periods :-
1.       Luck of the past or Luck given by heaven (Impossible to change)
2.       Luck of the present or the luck gained or earned by the man (Action-based-Luck)
3.       Luck of the future or the luck gained at the earth. (This luck can be converted or changed into favorable luck easily).

Importance of Sawan Month | By Anjalika Sanstha

There are a lot of indications about the beginning of Sawan month. Dense clouds can be seen in the sky during the Sawan month. These clouds relieve the earth from the heat on raining. This month gives us a message to deal with the difficulties in our life. The rain gives a new life to nature and the surroundings. New buds can be seen along with flowers etc. Even the trees and plants give us a message to handle the problems in our life.

The first Monday in the Sawan is of great importance. There are three types of fasts that can be kept on Mondays. These including fasting on Mondays, Solah somvar (fasting on sixteen consecutive mondays) and Pradosh fast. Any one of these fasts should be started from the first Monday of the Sawan month. A huge crowd can be seen on the first Monday of the Sawan month in temples devoted to Lord Shiva. According to beliefs, worshipping Lord Shiva on this day provides a person with wealth.

On this day, the head of the family should take a bath in the morning and should be seated in a clean place. He should be facing the eastern or the northern direction. A wooden platform should be used which should be covered with a white cloth. He should then worship a Shivalinga. ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ should be recited. Milk mixed with water should be poured on the Shivalinga and ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ should be recited 108 times with a Rudraksha mala.

Definition Of Upasana | Anjalika Sanstha

The mind is by its very nature fickle and restless. Hence it is extremely difficult to keep our mind fixed on the Supreme God (Para- Brahman), who is without form and of extremely subtle essence. To help out the aspirant therefore, the Upanishads prescribe certain focused meditations known as Upasanas which gradually help him make progress on the spiritual path.
Definition Of Upasana
The support which helps in keeping the mind fixed on one particular thought is known as ‘Alambana’. For example, the sound of Om, the inner recess of the heart, or the Prana etc.  . The scriptures prescribe many Alambanas according to the competence of the aspirant. Choosing any one Alambana prescribed in the scriptures, and meditating upon that with only the flow of thought as delineated in the Vedas, without allowing any other thought not related to it from coming in the way, is known as Upasana. This leads to purification of the mind, and is also easier than concentrating directly on Parabrahman. However, it eventually leads to Advaita Jnana in due course (Shri Shankaracharya’s introduction to the Chandogya Upanishad).
An Alambana is but God only. Even then, because of being qualified by different features, they are known by various names.
Basically Upasana is keeping the mind in only one mental form over a long period of time. This does not mean that there should be no movement in the mind at all and it should be fixed only on a given shape or sound. On the other hand, the mind should be pondering over the Alambana and its connection with the ‘Chaitanya’ (consciousness) it represents and the essential nature of the Chaitanya – all as delineated in the scriptures.
For e.g. as one is uttering AUM he should be ruminating over its syllables  in the following manner, as outlined in the Mandukya Upanishad: ‘A’ is the waking state (Vaishvanara). ‘U’ is the dream state (Taijasa). ‘M’ is the state of deep sleep (Prajna).
The waking and sleeping states both merge into deep sleep; and when we get up the two states emerge from it. Similarly, when the articulation of aum terminates in m, a and u enter into m. When aum gets repeated, a and u emerge out of m.
This is the correct, scriptural method of meditating on OM. When the mind is ruminating over the ideas in this manner there is fickility because the mind is by nature very unstationary. However, the important point is that no other thoughts should be entertained during this rumination. When another thought enters the mind it should be forcefully subdued.
